Over 200 British MPs pressure Keir Starmer to recognize Palestinian statehood
222 British members of parliament across both political spectrums signed an open letter to Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Friday urging him to recognize Palestine as a state.
The letter, organized by the Foreign Affairs Committee, called for the full implementation of the two-state solution, meaning a full and equal recognition not only for Israel, but also for the Palestinians.
Belgian officials arrest two Israeli soldiers over war crime allegations in Gaza
Belgian authorities arrested two Israeli soldiers at the Tomorrowland Music Festival over the weekend following formal complaints of alleged war crimes in Gaza, marking the first such arrests of Israeli military personnel in Europe, two human rights organizations said.
The arrests came after the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) and the Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) filed legal complaints last Friday and Saturday, accusing the soldiers of violating international humanitarian law in Gaza.
Belgian King delivers surprising remarks condemning Gaza’s humanitarian catastrophe
In a rare and strongly worded statement, Belgian King Philippe denounced what he described as “serious humanitarian abuses” in Gaza during a speech on July 17.
“I add my voice to all those who denounce the serious humanitarian abuses in Gaza, where innocent people are dying of hunger and being killed by bombs while trapped in their enclaves,” the king said during his televised speech from the Royal Palace in Brussels. “The current situation has gone on for far too long. It is a disgrace to all of humanity.”
