US sanctions UN special rapporteur critical of Israel

The Trump administration announced on Wednesday it is imposing sanctions on United Nations Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese, who has investigated human rights abuses in Gaza and the West Bank since 2022.
“Today I am imposing sanctions on U.N. Human Rights Council Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese for her illegitimate and shameful efforts to prompt The International Criminal Court [ICC] action against U.S. and Israeli officials, companies, and executives,” U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X.
Muslim chaplain of children’s hospital detained by ICE

Imam Ayman Soliman, a Muslim chaplain at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, was detained Wednesday by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the Muslim Legal Fund of America said.
Soliman, an Egyptian national, arrived in the United States in 2014 and was granted asylum in 2018 after applying for protected status.
Lebanon will not seek normalization with Israel, president says

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said that his country does not seek to establish diplomatic relations with Israel but still wants peace with its historic adversary.
“Peace is the lack of a state of war, and this is what matters to us in Lebanon at the moment,” Aoun said at a meeting with an Arab think tank in Beirut on Friday.
